The first editions took place in Essen\, Germany – since 2013 Denovali presents similar festivals in London and Berlin. Focussed on experimental music the lineup offers a wonderful opportunity to discover a wide range of international denovali artists live and is rounded off by various renowned non-label guest artists. A hallmark of the festival is the renunciation of the headliner principle: all artists are receiving the same attention – the length of each artist’s concert is equal. In addition to the musical program the festival features yearly changing specials like an experimental film cinema\, installations or lectures. \nSATURDAY APRIL 20 – SCALA LONDON \nAndy Stott (UK)\n::: ?Stott found an unusual musicality in deep\, foreboding bass. His music throbbed with the sooty remnants of industry and had obvious appeal for those interested in dark ambiance of any stripe“ (pitchfork)\n::: listen: www. soundcloud.com/modernlove/sets/andy-stott-luxury-problems-1 \nBersarin Quartett (GER)\n::: references to Stars Of The Lid\, Ulver’s Perdition City and Cinematic Orchestra are fully justified\n::: listen: www.denovali.com/bersarinquartett \nMaybeshewill (UK)\n::: ?instrumental\, atmospheric\, noisy brilliance that gets right inside the battered crevices of your skull and pounds on the sides“ (nme)\n::: listen: www.maybeshewill.net \nFennesz (A)\n::: ?flood of symphonic guitar and electronics overwhelms the mix and we’re reintroduced to the signature sound world that’s unique to this man’s music – he’s one of the most imitated electronic artists out there“ (boomkat)\n::: listen: www.fennesz.com \nOmega Massif (GER)\n::: instrumental mountainmetal\n::: www.denovali.com/omegamassif \nPetrels (UK)\n::: It is a swirling cataract of a record\, a deluge o beautiful noise and crushing melody\, which ebbs and flows beneath the surface“\n::: www.denovali.com/petrels \nThe Pirate Ship Quintet (UK)\n::: moving through the richly melodic foundations of contemporary classical and minimalist rock\n::: www.denovali.com/thepirateshipquintet/ \nSUNDAY APRIL 21 – SCALA LONDON \nWilliam Basinski (USA)\n::: ?William Basinski is a classically trained musician and composer who has been working in experimental media for over 25 years in NYC.
