Aremun Podcast 44 – Kike Pravda (Senoid Recordings) + Intervista

 

Questa settimana a far parte di Aremun Podcast n°44 è il turno di Kike Pravda, artista spagnolo e proprietario della famosa label Senoid Recordings.

1. Sei nato e cresciuto a Vitoria, Spagna. Puoi dirci qualcosa della tua infanzia e come ti sei avvicinato alla musica elettronica?

I miei genitori hanno lavorato con la musica per tutta la vita e tutti gli strumenti  e sintetizzatori erano in giro per casa. Mi piacevano i suoni che ne venivano fuori mentre suonavano questi strumenti, e ciò ha fatto in modo che mi piacesse la musica elettronica, piuttosto che altri stili che per esempio, i miei amici ascoltavano in quel periodo.

 2. Quale è stato il primo club in cui hai suonato?

Club Pravda, a Vitoria.

3. Quali sono state le tue più grandi influenze musicali?

Labels come Downwards, Sinewave, Axis, Blueprint  dove mi hanno influenzato come dj e sono state la base per iniziare a produrre.

 4. Puoi parlarci delle prossime release sulla tua label Senoid?

Si, nei prossimi mesi uscirà Senoid 003 e 004. Ho firmato Senoid003 con 4 original tracks. Nel Senoid004 ci sarà anche un remix di Exium, la sua collaborazione è stato un grande piacere per me.

5. Nel fare l’A&R per le release future, c’è una mentalità specifica per il tipo di musica che si desidera o dai carta bianca all’artista?

Quando penso a un remixer o una release, immagino l’intero concetto del 12″, come le tracce stanno tra di loro e quali tracce si adattano meglio con uno o con l’altro. Ma il remixer deve avere carta bianca, naturalmente.

6. Nei club suoni in vinile o digitale? Qual è il tuo setup quando fai il deejay?

Ho usato i vinili per tanti anni, ma oggi suono solo in digitale.

7.  Puoi parlarci di come è composto il tuo studio e quali sono i tuoi strumenti preferiti?

Ho una  TR-909, TR-808, TB-303, Monopoly, Pro-One, Blofeld,Moog… Ma uso anche plugin virtuali, effetti e altro con Logic o Ableton. Alla fine le tracce le faccio passare in un rack premaster con compressore SSL e un EQ -1 (1996) per dare dinamicità e colore finale. Il mio strumento preferito è un distortion pedal Moog Drive.

8. Arrivi da importanti label come WarmUp Recordings, Shades, Psycoskunk, Dust REC., ecc. C’è una traccia che preferisci tra tutte quelle che hai prodotto?

Le tracce che mi hanno dato più soddisfazione e che includo spesso nei miei set sono “Fear is the Enemy – Warm Up” e  “Tunnel  – De Javu (Kike Pravda remix)”

9. Cosa c’è nella borsa dei dischi di Kike?

Shiga, Xhin, Shifted, Exium, Reeko, Oscar Mulero,J onas Kopp, Truncate, Developer, Phase, Kwartz, Tadeo, Groof….

10. Bene, siamo giunti alla fine, vuoi raccontarci di cosa avete pianificato per il resto del 2014?

Mi auguro che entro dicembre Senoid 003 uscirà nei negozi di dischi, e spero che vi piaccia.

 – ENGLISH VERSION –

1. You were born and raised in Vitoria, Spain. Can you tell us a little about your childhood and how you first gained exposure to electronic music?

 My parents have been working with music and instruments all their live and there were always machines and synthesizers at my home. I liked the sounds that came out while I was handling these instruments at home, and that made that I liked electronic music rather than other styles that for example my friends where listening during that time.

 2. What was the first club you’ve played?

 It was in Club Pravda, in Vitoria.

3. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

 Labels like Downwards, Sinewave, Axis, Blueprint  were my influences as a dj and also like a base to start to produce.

4. Can you talk us through some of the up and coming releases on your labels, Senoid in the coming months?

 Yes, during the next month will be out  Senoid 003 and 004.

I sign Senoid 003 with 4 original tracks.  Senoid 004 has Exium remix.  His collaboration is a big pleasure to me.

5. When doing the A&R for future releases, is there a specific mindset for type of music you want or is carte blanche given to the artist?

 When I think of a remixer or release, I imagine the whole concept of 12 ” , how  the tracks will be together and wich tracks will fit better with one or another. But the remixer have blanche carte of course.

6. Do you still spin vinyl in clubs or are you now fully digital? What is your current setup when DJing?

 I used vinyl for many years but currently I only use digital format. The set up is basic, mixer and 2 channels.

 7. Can you talk us through your studio at home and some of your favourite tools?

 I have TR-909,TR-808,TB-303 , Monopoly, Pro-One, Blofeld,Moog…

But I also use many virtual instruments, effects and all through Logic or Ableton . To end the tracks I use a rack premaster with handmade SSL compressor and EQ -1 (1996 )  to give a dynamic and final “color”. Currently my favourite tool is a distortion pedal Moog Drive.

8. You came out on labels as important as WarmUp Recordings, Shades, Psycoskunk, Dust REC., etc. There’s a track that you prefer among all the ones you’ve made ?

 The tracks that have given me more satisfaction in terms of the track itself, where it came edited, who included it in his sets, etc  was “Fear is the Enemy” Warm Up or ” Tunnel – De Javu (Kike Pravda remix)”

9. What’s in the bag records of Kike?

 Shiga, Xhin, Shifted, Exium, Reeko, Oscar Mulero,J onas Kopp, Truncate, Developer, Phase, Kwartz, Tadeo, Groof….

10. Finally is there anything you want to tell us about that you have planned for the remainder of 2014?

 I hope that by December Senoid 003 will be out in record stores, and I hope you enjoy it.
